Garda, in the province of Verona, region of Veneto, Northeastern Italy.

The old village of Garda: narrow streets where you can walk between the promenade, the historical Villa degli Albertini (16th century) with its magnolia trees, the pale-yellow Captain's Palace (Palazzo dei Capitani) which is a palace in Venetian Gothic style (14th century), Palazzo Carlotti in Renaissance style and the 18th-century parochial church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This church originally dates from the 6th-7th century. A new church was built in 1530 by Gian Matteo Giberti but, because of lack of funds, the construction was only concluded in 1764. The framework of the doors are made in white Veronese stone.(1824). The interior consists of three aisles. The eastern side rest on six heavy columns, the southern side on four lighter ones. They are all connected by round arches. The statues of S. Peter and S. Paul were made by the Veronese sculptor Righetti (1886). The large wooden crucifix dates from the 14th-15th century. It is considered the most precious item in the church. Behind the crucifix one can see the edict of Pope Innocent II (November 1138) resolving the allocation of tithes. The side altar of Saint Anthony of Padua dates from 1720. The altarpiece was painted by Simone Brentani (1720) and the statues in Carrara marble represent San Fabiano and San Sebastiano. The two confessionals (17th century) in walnut timber with wood carving and intaglio were made in the workshop of Andrea Brustolon (Rococo style). The side altar (1648) in the "Capella dei Caduti" contains the wooden statue "Madonna and Child" (Veronese style - 15th century). In the right aisle is located the side altar with the painting of San Luigi Gonzaga and San Vincenzo Ferreri by Gaspare Diziani (1764). The baptismal font dates from the17th century. For a long time it was the only baptismal font in the neighbourhood. The main altar dates from mid 16th century in front of the organ (1958).
