Selskar Abbey, Wexford, was in existence at the time of the Norman Invasion.

Selskar Abbey was founded in the late 12th century by Alexander de la Roche, following a crusade to the Holy Land. It was severely damaged when Cromwell attacked the town. Local legend tells of a visit to Selskar Abbey by King Henry II, where he reputedly spent some time as penance for the murder of Thomas Beckett.
