But thewhims and sports of the ro^al boy were little interfered withby his obsequious tutors and attendants. The early victories, as well as the later defeats of LouisXIV., had been frightfully expensive, and when the GrandMonarch passed away, the debts thus incurred pressed withredoubled force on the impoverished people of France.
