We have decided, however, to let the con-tract at this figure, hoping by keeping cost account onit to show that it can be laid considerably cheaper than$ and in this way we expect to bring the price downto a more reasonable figure. From our investigation of this pavement and ourslight experience with it we are so favorably impresesdthat we hope to be alile to lay larger yardage of it inthe future if it can be done at a reasonable figure. I am inclined to think that it would be possible to lay. ON .M.\1N STKEKT, this pavement with a cheaper class of labor than is re-quired for the standard granite block. I have not triedto do so in Louisville, but have laid all the pavement todate with granite pavers at 50 cents per hour. We havejust started work* on our first contract for durax andI am going to have the contractor try common labor forlaying a portion of this pavement. After the completion of the car track paving on Mainstreet between 7th and 8th streets, we had left about 160square yards of granite cubes, which we have just laidon the side of Main street between 2d and 3d.
