Sorgum harvest being dried in the sun infront of a traditional grain bin with an old women thrashing the grain

These photographs were taken with the help of The Lutheran World Trust in Karamojo. They show traditional tribal villages with absolutely no modernisation. An old Karamajong women is thrashing the Sorgum. In the background are the thatched storage bins on stilts to stop rats eating the Karamajong are an isolated tribe and at the time of photographing in 1989 ruled their own territory with no outside intervention. There were still raiding parties made by young heavily armed warriors, and one night a man was shot by a raid in the compound next to where we were staying. These photos show a way of life that has not changed for probably thousands of years and may still be the same today.
