There are anumber of small telegraph stations along this road belonging tothe Meshed branch of the Indo-European Telegraph British telegraph official at Teheran in charge of thisbranch, learning immediately of the defeat of the Turcomans,had instructions wired to his operators all along the road toinform the Turcomans as they passed that the Bakhtiyaris were just behind them. As a result of this trick the rebels werekept in full flight and prevented from pillaging the countrypeople and small villages along the road, as they had been doingand would doubtless have done upon this occasion. At this time the city of Tabriz was reported to be seriously.
