Pandora and the Box

In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus, the king of gods, sent her as a wife to Prometheus' brother Epimetheus with a box that he forbade her to open. She disobeyed and, when she opened it, all the evils afflicting humankind flew out. This painting is by English artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882).
