Louis Riel (executed 1885). A 1909 depiction of him after his capture by 'Half-Breed Scouts'. Riel was President of the Provisional Government of Saskatchewan, Canada and a Canadian politician, a founder of the province of Manitoba, and a political leader of the Métis people of the Canadian Prairies, leading two rebellions against the government of Canada which resulted in his trial and execution.
