George hurried forward ; there wasevidently something in the wind, so I followed at fullspeed to learn what it was. Then I found that theyhad caught the man, who was an Arab bearing a heavyclub in his hands, such as is generally carried byBeduins on foot. Our guides thought he was acting 6o WITH THE BEDUINS. as a spy for some of the Beni Sokr, whom they sup-posed to be lying in ambush for them, and they wereproposing to kill him at once. But fortunately Georgeknew the man, and the latter ran to George for protec-tion, and kissed his foot, entreating his interference, which was promptly given. He was in a very excitedstate when I came up. He was soon allowed to gofree on my request, and we passed PART OF SOUTH FRONT OF ENCLOSURE WALL, MASHITA. [Drawn from an imperfect photograph by F.
