Lately there has been a noticeablediminution in the activity of all springs near this cave;and Canary spring has become quite dry. Narrow Gauge Terrace during recent years hasbecome less active. About ten years ago hot water fiowedfrom many openings along this fissure, almost completelycovering both sides. Now activity is confined to the west-ern end. Lookout Point.—The view from here is up thevalley of the East Gardiner Eiver through which the road 40 HAYNES NEW GUIDE. Orange Spring Formation.—This isolated moundhas been built up by a small spring in its top, to a heightof 15 feet. From here the road leads a short distanceeast, up grade, to a ridge overlooking— Bath Lake.—The lukewarm water supplied froma spring on the southern shore of this lake is very finefor bathing. The government has built a small bath-house on its northern shore. While there is no visible out-let to this lake, the water is always fresh, as it constantlyescapes through fissures below the surface. Bathers shouldbe very cautious, as the bed of Bath Lake is rough and therock very sharp in places. Devirs Kitchen may be safely entered by thestairway. This cave is the interior of an extinct hot springas the character of the walls plainly show. It was firstexplored in 1881, at which time numerous bones ofwild animals were found.
