This latter building ap-pears to have been a substantial edifice, of some size andpretensions, and is quite clearly shown upon the DukesPlan, supposed to represent the town as of the year early as 1654 it was enclosed with a high wall, providedwith a gate kept locked and barred by night: these particu-lars we learn from the prosecution of one Willemsen forburglary at this house in that year, as it was thought thathe must have had confederates to help him climb the
