The cornice is of metal. The metal frame is ofsteel, the walls being self-supporting. The fire-proof floors are of tlie Roebling System B or flatslab type, of gravel concrete, the spans between beams beingabout 8 ft. The few partitions and those enclosing stairwaysare of wire lath and plaster. The walls are furred with wirelath with 1 V-rib stiffeners woven in to offset the wire surface1 from the walls. The steel colunms are protected by 3 ofgravel concrete rigidly anchored to them. The soffits of thegirders and the beams are protected by crimped wire lath andplaster gauged with Portlancl cement.
