The onlyclues to the date are the style of writing used in the deed, and the nameof one of the witnesses—William, Abbot of Cleeve. The device is aneagle displayed, and the legend round it is— filii Ricardi. Eleanor, wife of William Martin, and widow of the second John deMohun, who died in 1279, is said to have used a seal showing threedifferent shields, viz. :—Two bars and a label for Martin, a hand issuingfrom a maunch and holding a fleur-dedys for Mohun, and three lionsrampant for Fitz-
