A Swiss ceremonial sword, circa 1600. A single-edged blade with fullers on both sides and a double-edged point. Old leather sleeve on the ricasso. Extended S-shaped curved quillons. The end of the knucklebow is chiselled as a monster's head. On the obverse side there is a richly openworked guard plate, chiselled and engraved, with the arms of the town of Bern between two female caryatids. There is a large guard ring on the reverse side.
