Laser treatment of varicose veins. Surgeons using a catheter inserted into a varicose vein to apply laser energy (red beams) to treat the condition. Varicose veins are lengthened and dilated veins that can develop just below the surface of the skin. Laser treatment uses bursts of laser light to heat up the vein, and makes it slowly fade and disappear. An ultrasound scanner in the background (transducer in hand) is allowing the surgeon to check his actions are targeting the right area.
