Illustration of the InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) lander deploying its Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS) onto the Martian surface. The lander's robotic arm (IDA) is removing the protective WTS (Wind and Thermal Shield) from SEIS. The InSight lander is designed to study the interior of Mars. It will investigate the processes that formed and shaped Mars and its findings will improve our understanding of the evolution of the inner solar system's rocky planets. InSight was launched on 5 May 2018 and successfully landed on Mars on 26th November 2018.
