The Buxton Drinking Fountain, Westminster, London, c1870 (1878). The Buxton Memorial Fountain is a memorial and drinking fountain in Victoria Gardens, Westminster, that commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834. It was designed by Charles Buxton MP (1823-1871) and Samuel Sanders Teulon (1812-1873) in neo-Gothic style in 1865 and was dedicated to Thomas Fowell Buxton (1786-1845), Buxton's father, who was one of the leading British proponents of the abolition of slavery.
