Primary standard radiation force balance. Radiation force balances are used to measure the output power generated by transducers, devices that convert one form of energy to another. An example is medical ultrasound transducers. Primary standards are extremely accurate measurements against which other devices and measurements are calibrated or compared. The UK's primary standards for ultrasound are established here, at the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, UK.
