St Sepulchre, church in the City of London; the nave

St Sepulchre, church in the City of London. The largest of the City churches rebuilt after the Great Fire of London (1666), it is seven bays long with an arcade of Doric columns on high plinths dividing the nave from the aisles. The design is likely to be by Joshua Marshall, the mason appointed by the parish; in 1668 the parish records show there were discussions with him about the twelve columns required for the nave. The deep coffering of the ceiling is from the 1830s.
