The Strait and Steep Hill are aptly named. Traveling by foot up Lincoln's most famous incline is not for the faint hearted. However for those who are happy to take their time and enjoy the tremendous selection of listed and period properties, the benefits are immense. Lamp standard 1883, corner of Danesgate Made by Foster of Lincoln at the Wellington works on Waterside North (opposite Doughty's Mill). William Foster bought a flour mill there in 1856 and soon converted to steam-power; 60 years later his company was making the world's first military tanks.
