While we do not know the cause of theaccident, it has been suggested that it resulted from the failureof the pin connection between the governor and the eccentric,which would free the engine from governor control, and permitthe latest possible cut-off, resulting in a runaway. Fragments ofthe wheel tore through the station did considerable damage to arefrigerating system in the plant, and one fragment tore throughthe cottage of a negro, which stood near-by. Figure 2 shows how this fragment cut the floor of this cottagepractically in two. A meal was being prepared on the stove seenat the right, and several small children were sleeping in the adjoin-ing room seen in back,
