Little girls playing in a large cauldron with statue of Gryla, Iceland
Little girls playing in a large caldron with statue of Gryla. Iceland. Gryla- giant ogress troll, mother of the thirteen Yule Lads in Icelandic mythology. With horns, tails, hooves and claws, Gryla is downright beastly. Folklore states she comes from the mountains each Christmas to catch and eat naughty boys and girls. This was used to scare and keep children well behaved.
