View from the Copper Canyon, El Chepe, train. This 941 km 584 mile long train route took 90 years to complete through some of the most rugged terrain in the western hemisphere. It spans 86 tunnels and 37 bridges and was finished in 1961 only after five separate private companies and the Mexican government built sections of it. Copper Canyon is one of a half dozen huge connected canyons in the Sierra Madre of Mexico that form the Americas largest canyon system.
