East Mound is seen across Fresh Kills in the Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island in New York is seen on Sunday, March 21, 2010. The landfill was officially closed on March 22, 2001, having been opened in 1947, and is in the process of being converted into the 2200 acre Fresh Kills Park a process expected to take at least 30 years.
