The altar in St Fillan's Cave in Cove Wynd, Pittenweem, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland, UK.

This cave, restored in 1935 by the rector Canon de Voil, was used by the 7th century early christian missionary, St. Fillan and is the basis of the town's name ('Pit' meaning place in pictish and 'weem' meaning cave). Legend says that St. Fillan wrote his sermons in the complete darkness of the cave and his left arm glowed enabling him to see what he was writing. At later times this natural sea cave was used by smugglers and then as a rubbish dump. The altar in this right-hand fork of the cave is the focus for services that are still held in the cave.
