A round trip, including the usual park trip, requires about elevendays from Chicago and St. Louis, and nine days from St. Paul,Duluth, Minneapolis, Portland, Tacoma, and are two things that the average tourist notices in being. wheeled through Wonderland. First, that the pleasures of thetrip and the fine scenery are not confined to the places of greatestinterest, the Springs, Geyser basins, etc. Second, that the scenicfeatures of the region, as they are gradually unfolded during thetour, grow stronger and grander. Beginning with the Mammoth Hot Springs, we have somethingentirely unique of their kind, and on a scale well deserving thename Mammoth. Between the Springs and Norris Geyser Basin,the next place where unusual phenomena are found, there aresome beautiful stretchesof valley, mountain, and woodland Basin has a weird fascination for the visitor because it isthe first of a peculiar class of wonders seen.
