Crest of a dune with desert bushes. Merzouga is a small village in southeastern Morocco, about 35km (22 miles) southeast of Rissani, about 55km (34 miles) from Erfoud and about 50km (31 miles) from the border with Algeria. The village is known for its proximity to Erg Chebbi and is a popular destination for tourists. It has been described as "a desert theme park" and Erg Chebbi as "a sand wonderland". Merzouga has the largest underground natural body of water in Morocco.
