On the death of Swedenborg, which took place in London, in 1772, at theage of eighty-four, a eulogy was pronounced in honor of his memory in thehouse of nobles of Sweden, by S. Sandal, in the name of the Royal Academyof Sciences of Stockholm. His theological works, as translated into English,equal about twenty-seven volumes octavo, of from four hundred to five hundredpages each. He was simple and unaffected in his manners, and very abstemi-ous in his diet, in the latter years of his life (while in a trance or state of spir-itual ecstasy) passing whole days together with no nourishment but coffee 238 ALEXANDER ALEXANDER POPE.
