Conjecturesinfinite might be placed before the reader on the anti(]uity of this species of art, but theywould be valueless, no certain data, of which we are aware, existing to lead him in the rightroad ; and we must, therefore, be content with enumerating some of the principal worksin tliis style. The caves at Ellora consist of several apartments ; the jjlan of that calledthe Indra Subba (yzV/. 36.) is here given, to show the species of plan which these places.
