An abandoned wagon gives visitors to get an impression of an inclined plane, near Banne in the Ardeche departement of France.

This old inclined plane complete with the remains of an old wagon gives visitors a glimpse into the importance of coal mining in the past. The inclined plane was a method of using gravity to move full and empty coal trucks up and down a slope. The mining was centred on the towns of Banne and St-Paul-le-Jeune. Today the area is covered in pine forest and is popular with walkers. Trails have been made to visit some of the old mining remains. Explanatory panels help visitors to understand the importance of coal in the history of this region of the south of France.
