The following varieties are extremely useful for pre- serving and pickling. They are all enormously product- ive, and a short row in the garden will furnish an ample supply for a large family. The varieties are absolutely pure, having all been raised at Fordhook Farm. RED PEAR=SHAPED. This is a leading favorite for preserves, and also to make " tomato ; The fruit is bright red, of true pear shape, and of rich, distinct flavor. The larger plum-shaped red tomato, often sold under the same name, is not nearly equal to the true variety.
