St Mary the Virgin Church, Caerau Hillfort, Caerau, Cardiff Deconsecrated 1973, 13th century ruined and vandalised church and churchyard within an Iron Age hillfort. Looking north west at tower. It is possible that the graveyard covers the area of the Norman Castle Bailey. By 2011 the church ruins were consolidated and tidied up. In 2019 looking very spruce!. Except for the saddleback roof on the tower, all roofs have been removed and the walls taken down to solid masonry The graveyard has been tidied up, the headstones removed, and the grass kept mown. The church is said to date from C13. Restored c1885 by John Prichard, Llandaff diocesan architect, who rebuilt the chancel. The vestry was added in c1920. Formerly with an oval churchyard. Only the tower survives in anything like a complete state
