Elie de Beaumont (1798-1874). 1882 of the French geologist and engineer Jean-Baptiste Elie de Beaumont. De Beaumont is best known for his theory on the origin of mountain ranges, which he first proposed in 1829 and elaborated on in his 'Notice sur le systeme des montagnes' publication in 1852. He also played a leading role in the preparation of the geological map of France.
