Although the Aral) knows more about dates than he does about any other plant, since it is his principal food, his knowledge is generally very local, and it is difficult to obtain accurate information regarding the extent of the date plantations along the gulf. It is probable that small gardens are to be found almost anywhere on the coast where the water necessary for cultivation is obtainable, but there are several principal regions from which the dates are exported or have otherwise become well known.
