National Conference and People's Democratic Party have abstained from the elections, while there has been calls for boycott by separatists along with alleged threats. Two National Conference members were killed by militants on Friday 5th October. According to police officials, the prevailing tense atmosphere in Kashmir have led to minimal campaigning by the candidates for the local bodies' elections
