Macrodontia cervicornis beetle. This beetle is one of the largest insect species in the world. Adult insects can grow to over 17 centimetres in length, but this includes its oversized mandibles (mouthpieces). It typically lives in the rain forests of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, the Guianas, and Brazil. Photographed in Petit-Saut, French Guiana.
