Portrait John (Johannes) Smith. Portrait of John Smith (1652-1743), an ambitious Mezzotint engraver and pralucer. Between 1683 and 1729 he produced more than 300 mezzotints. It was primarily the paintings of the portrait painter Godfried knopeller that he reproduced in Mezzotint (more than 113). In 1694 he engraved briders self-portrait and in response to the portrait of Smith in 1696. To emphasize their special tire, Knelleller painted the engraver with his hand his portrait print of 1694. Smith immortalized this double portrait in turn in Mezzotint.
