Pre-cancerous skin lesion on the thigh of a 56-year-old woman. Histological examination revealed this to be a melanocytic intraepithelial neoplasia (MIN), or melanoma in situ. This results from an abnormal growth of the epithelial cells that form the epidermis (top skin layer). This lesion was surgically excised.
