NELSON, Nels August, a HighCouncilor in the Jordan Stake of Zion,is the son of John and Annetta Nelson,and was born May 8, 1857, at Eringa,Hallands Ian, Sweden. With his parentshe emigrated to Utah in 1864. He wasbaptized May 5, 1865, by Niels Mickel-sen; ordained a Deacon in 1870 by NielsHansen; ordained a Teacher in 1873; or-dained an Elder Dec. 31, 1883, by NephiHoward; ordained a Seventy Feb. 20,1887, by Apostle Abraham H. Cannon,and ordained a High Priest and setapart as an alternate High Councilor inthe Jordan Stake by Apostle AnthonH. Lund Jan. 21, 1900. Later (May,1, 1901), he was set apart as a regularHigh Councilor by Apostle John Henry. Smith. Elder Nelson has ever been anenergetic worker in the various or-ganizations of the Church, having heldmany responsible positions in both theSunday school and mutual improve-ment association. In his youth hehad to spend much of his time laboringin mining camps and other roughplaces, but he always acknowledgedthat he was a Mormon, and neverfelt so happy as when he was defendingthe principles of the gospel against theattacks of skeptics and unbelievers. Jan. 24, 1884, he married Fidelia EllenKoffoed, who has been his faithfulhelpmate ever since. Bro. Nelson hashad many trials and obstacles to over-come, but he bears testimony that theLord has never failed to help himwhen he humbly called upon Him infaith. His greatest desire is to livein such a manner that he may be wor-thy of the blessings which have beenpromised to the
