The Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) is a species of sparrow found in the western part of North America. It was formerly thought to be conspecific with the Eastern Towhee (Pipilo erythrophthalmus) of eastern North America. This bird prefers dense brushy cover where it scratches in leaf litter for food.
