During the 10-day inaugural period approximately 6,000 National Guard personnel from over 30 states and territories worked for Joint Task Force-District of Columbia, providing traffic control, crowd management, transportation, communication, medical and logistical support as well as marching in the Inaugural Parade. The National Guard is home to a wide variety of capabilities, which can seamlessly integrate with our inter-agency partners for the inauguration,” said Maj. Gen Errol R. Schwartz, Commanding General, and District of Columbia National Guard. “We are proud to support the peaceful transition of power and ensure safety and the well-being of our fellow Americans during this nationally symbolic event.” Interagency cooperation led to the success of the 2013 Presidential Inauguration. The National Guard conducts extensive planning with its partners to ensure a consolidated, coordinated and effective approach. Since 1789, the Armed Forces have participated in this important American tradition honoring our Commander in Chief.
