Thepresent is much the commonest species; extending along thewhole west and south coasts of Australia, and to Tasmania andNew Zealand. It bears a remarkably close resemblance to aSwiss fossil, figured by Brongniart, under the name Fucoideshypnoides (Brongn. Hist. t. 9 bis, t. 1-2). Fig. 1.
