It almost goes without saying that aman and an artist of this stamp mustto an unusual extent become an auto-didact, working out his own ends,and by intuition and unceasing studyacquiring those methods of expressionwhich best suit his artistic tempera-ment. Liljefors, however, has had afair share of academic training, forhaving completed his education atancient Upsala, he studied some threeyears at the Academy of Arts inStockholm, and afterwards went abroadfor a couple of years. But his indi-viduality was already then sufficientlypronounced so as not to be greatlyinfluenced by what he saw.
