Four radio images of SS 433 taken with the Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope, New Mexico. They were taken in January (top left), February (top right), March (bottom left) and April 1981, at a wavelength of 6 cm. The four images show twin jets of high- energy particles moving outwards from the central star system, possibly a neutron star or black hole, at speeds of 180 million miles an hour, one quarter the speed of light. The images have a resolution of arcseconds and a field of view of arcseconds. Observers; R. Hjellming & K. Johnston.
