Located in the central highlands of Afghanistan, with a mountainous or semi-mountainous terrain, Bamyan Province is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, With a series of six deep blue lakes separated by natural dams made of travertine, a mineral deposit, Band-e Amir National Park is Afghanistan's first national park. The lakes are situated in the Hindu Kush mountains of central Afghanistan at approximately 3000m of altitude, west of province’s capital city, Bamyan.
