The downcast koepe tower at Cotgrave Colliery, Nottinghamshire, 1963. The downcast koepe tower nearing completion at Cotgrave Colliery in 1963. Cotgrave Colliery opened in 1963 and was worked for only thirty years until is finally closed in 1993. The pit had millions of tons of reserves but the coal was of poor quality. The shafts were filled with concrete after the mine closed.
