Sharpe divides Syplieotis into two genera, creating a new genusHoubaropsis for the larger bird and retaining Sypheotis for thesmaller. The fact of the latter having a seasonal change of plumageand the former not having one would add considerable strength tothe reasons for dividing them, but for the purpose of this work Iretain them in the one genus. Key to the Species. Wing 7 to 10 inches, tarsus 335 to 45 .S. aurita. Wing 13 to 15 inches, tarsus 5 to 62 S. bengalensis. X.
