View SE of the Spinsters' Rock Neolithic burial chamber, Drewsteignton, Devon, England, UK: a dolmen with a large capstone ft x 10ft & weighing tons (16 tonnes) supported by three widely spaced upright stones. The plan of the chamber is not authentic as the stones were re-erected in the 1900s after collapsing in 1862. There are no signs of a barrow or cairn. A local story suggests that the stones were erected (or re-erected) one morning before breakfast by three spinsters (spinners). The dolmen is situated about 2 miles beyond the NE edge of Dartmoor, in an area once rich in stone circles & stone rows.
