The gate was located on the eastern edge of the cemetery. This was constructed while the grave was being filled. Everyone at the burial services passed through this exit at the end of the ceremony. (1885, pp. 445-446) says that the Guaymi (probably the Northern tribes) wrap the corpse and leave it in a special place until the flesh has rotted ofif, when the bones are collected and buried with great ceremony. In- humation and varieties of secondary burial are reported for several other tribes. The remains are put in the ground or hung in the houses. Among the Cuetar embalmed bodies are put in mortuary buildings.
