Lt. George Lyon took this photograph on December 21, 1918, at the Port of Embarkation in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Transport Sierra had just arrived, bringing back 35 officers and 1,531 men who were mostly wounded and convalescent. The wounded soldiers were taken to the West Shore Station on hospital ships Shinnecook and Ossining, and then transported by rail to Camp Merritt. The Shinnecook is seen departing from Pier 4 towards the West Shore railroad yards. The photo was passed by the censor on December 24, 1918.
